Description

ARAB – ISRAELI WAR GASOLINE RATION COUPONS PRE 1967 WAR – SET of 3

Although these coupons are all dated in the early 1960’s, they were used extensively thru-out Egypt (in all major cities including Cairo, Alexandria, El Alamein, Minya etc.) right up until the end of the Six – Day War (June 1967). They were supposed to provide all military services with as much petrol (the word used on the ticket is ‘kerosene’, but refers to motor fuel or what we call gasoline) as needed and rationing out consumer supplies on a per- coupon basis. Originally lithographed by the Survey Department of Egypt with rouletted edges for easy separation.

This horde was in the process of being thrown into the Mediterranean Sea when the Israelis were rushing into the Government offices in the Gaza Strip during the Six – Day War. A large portion of several values were rescued during this initial incursion.

Featured here are three values (all different colors):

1 liter = green

5 liters = orange

10 liters = purple
