BURNING MONEY – AMERICAN DOLLARS for EXCLUSIVE USE in HAWAII & the PACIFIC – WWII

After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the US wished to avoid a financial debacle like that of the Philippines were the enemy got a hold of 20 Million+ Dollars. As the US had copious quantities of 1934 notes in several denominations ( $1’s, $5’s, $10’s & $20’s ) available it was easy to impress these with the addition of the brown seal and HAWAII overprints.

It was simpler issuing the new notes, than getting rid of the old. All the none – overprinted issues were to have been shipped back to the mainland for destruction, but moving so many tons of paper was too expensive, so they found a local sugar factory ( Aiea Mills ) to help burn up the money – Sounds sweet.

 Guaranteed Genuine.
