FRAMED LIMITED EDITION (of 500) LENINGRAD (ST. PETERSBURG) DEFENSE MEDAL
It was during the siege of Leningrad in World War II, that the City established the ordinance for the issuance of a heroic medal.

The 1,000-day siege began in the Autumn of 1941, when German and Finish troops surrounded the city to squeeze it to its knees. Because of the bravery of the defenders & unusual supply tactics, including driving across the ice lake, Ladoga in winter, the residents were able to save their city.

Although it was in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in the first instance to issue a medal, it was followed suite by many other Soviet cities and areas, including: Moscow, Odessa, Sebastopol, Stalingrad, Kiev etc.

This medal was made featuring a soldier, sailor and workmen along with the magnificent Admiralty building and is mounted complete with ribbon on dark green & gray double matting.

The mat cutout reveals a stylish original 100-year old engraving with a touch of earlier times in this great city. Wood framed, glazed in plastic and ready to hang.

This is a most unique display item, preserved in a lovely frame, which comes fully boxed, with bubble-wrap and certificate of authenticity, all in brand new condition.
