FIJI WWII EMERGENCY 1 PENNY PAPER MONEY ISSUED 1942
Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, in December 1941 was the start of the Pacific War. Because of its most central position, Fiji was selected as a training base for the Americans & Allies. The island was filled with gun and anti-aircraft emplacements, also a major Pacific airstrip was built in Nadi. Coinage was in demand for use in the manufacture of armaments, so this paper version of the 1 cent coin was issued in 1942.
