Less than a year after the defeat of the Confederacy in America, Cuba (and Puerto Rico) began to cry out to be free from Spain & slavery. In 1868 Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, started the Cuban Revolution and the following year, a constitution that abolished slavery and annexed it to the United States was created. And by 1869 the first banknote (50 Centavos) was created and printed in America complete with the new Cuban flag designed by N. Lopez.
