In November 1918, Józef Piłsudski was released from German internment camp and created the Republic of Poland which annexed Vilnius from Lithuania. He believed in a multi-ethnic Poland. Between 1919 and 1921 he commanded Poland’s forces in several ( 5 ) border wars that shaped the nation.
