Description

OIL in NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES & the JAPANESE INVASION MONEY (JIM) – PEARL HARBOR

As a prelude to War with Japan, the US cut off oil supply (July 1941). The only major source in the East was the Netherlands East Indies ( or Dutch East Indies, today’s Indonesia), which could have been the protected by US Pacific Fleet stationed in Pearl Harbor. On the same day that Pearl Harbor was attacked, the East Indies was occupied by the Japanese. Shortly thereafter the Japanese Government money was introduced (in many cases printed on the ships sailing toward the various captured nations) in denominations of 1 (een), 5 (viljf) & 10 (tien) cents and 1/2, 1, 5 & 10 Gulden (same value types as was used in the Netherlands and colonies)
