In 193 there were five contenders for the Roman Emperor; Pertinax, Didius Julianus, Pescennius Niger, Clodius Albinus and Septimius Severus.
After consolidating his rule over the west, Severus destroyed Parthia and sacked their capital in 197, thus expanding the borders all the way to the Tigris in modern day Turkey & Iraq. He went on to many African conquests, and to England & Scotland too, but died of a cold in York, England in 211.
